En los últimos años ha sido notorio el interés mostrado por dos países mediterráneos, Grecia e Italia, por el aprendizaje del español como lengua extranjera (ELE), lengua oficial de otro país mediterráneo, España, y de veinte países más en todo el mundo. También ha sido relevante la importancia que dan los griegos y los italianos a la certificación de ELE con su respectiva participación en los exámenes. El objetivo del presente estudio es presentar, de forma detallada, la situación actual de la certificación de ELE en Grecia e Italia. Además, se presentan datos generales de cada certificación y su estructuración. Asimismo, describe el estado actual del español como LE (lengua extranjera), tanto en Grecia como en Italia. Las conclusiones derivadas de esta investigación evidencian el interés mostrado por los griegos y por los italianos en el aprendizaje y certificación de ELE, así como su posible incremento en el futuro, teniendo en cuenta la realidad conformada en el ámbito de ELE con el pasar de los años y los estándares diferentes de ambos países.The last years is notorious the interest expressed by two mediterranean countries, Greece and Italy, to the learning of Spanish as a foreign language (SFL), official language of another mediterranean country, Spain, and twenty other countries around the world. It is also relevant the importance given by the Greeks and Italians to the SFL (Spanish as a foreign language) certification by their respective participation to the exams. The objective of this investigation is to present with details the current situation of the certification of Spanish as a foreign language in Greece and in Italy. Also, this study is presenting data of each certification of SFL and its structure. It also describes the current situation of Spanish as a foreign language, both in Greece and Italy. The conclusions of this investigation are reflecting the importance of the interest expressed by Greeks and Italians to the learning and the certification of Spanish as a foreign language, as its possible increase in the future, considering also the reality configured in the field of SFL over the years and the different standards of both countries
