Abstract

People who spend most of their time out of doors will have lower housing demands, in all climates, than those in automated with sedentary occupations or those working enterprises. The study of the &dquo;folk ways&dquo; of well adapted societies would prove rewarding. We no longer consider their techniques &dquo;primitive&dquo;, when they adapt themselves to their available resources and conditions with a minimum of effort. Their ways are neither the result of poverty nor of ignorance. The use of un-roofed out-door space in the compounds of Bali or in the groups of single purpose buildings of the 19th century Maori in New Zealand are adequate both in a tropical and in a temperate climate. They are solutions for definite needs. Most western designed housing in tropical Pacific areas is less well adapted
