The Role of Supervision and Geometry in Categorization 1)

Abstract

There is an increasing amount of research in the field of object categorization. We use this opportunity to develop a scheme to rank current approaches with respect to geometry and supervision. We discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these dimensions and show that state-of-the-art approaches are operating in a narrow band of what could be done. Finally, we give an illustrative example how geometry and supervision influence object categorization and detection performances.
