Factors related to the post marsupialization reduction speed of odontogenic keratocyst in patients of Dental Teaching Center of the Peruvian Cayetano Heredia University in the years 2010 to 2019

Abstract

Antecedentes: El queratoquiste odontogénico es una patología que se origina de restos de la lámina dental, caracterizado por crecimiento lento y un alto nivel de agresividad local. Para el tratamiento de lesiones de gran tamaño o riesgo de compromiso de estructuras anatómicas se tiene como opción a la técnica quirúrgica de marsupialización la cual disminuye la presión interna de la lesión por medio de la conformación de una ventana en la mucosa oral y la pared quística consiguiendo con ello la reducción de sus dimensiones a través del tiempo. Objetivo: Determinar los factores relacionados a la velocidad de reducción post marsupialización del queratoquiste odontogénico mandibular en pacientes atendidos en la Clínica Dental Docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) entre los años 2010 a 2019. Materiales y Métodos: La investigación fue de tipo observacional, descriptiva y retrospectiva. Se recolectó la información a traves de la observación de radiografías panóramicas e historias clínicas de 32 pacientes de la Clinica Dental Docente UPCH con diagnóstico histopatológico confirmado de queratoquiste odontogénico a quienes se les realizó el procedimiento de marsupializacion y los controles respectivos durante el periodo de 2010 a 2019. Resultados: Se encontró una velocidad promedio de reduccion post marsupializacion de la patologia de 1.23 ± 4,67 mm2 x mes, no habiendo diferencias significativas según el sexo, edad, forma de la lesion, presencia de tabique, tiempo post operatorio o área inicial de la lesión. Conclusiones: No se hallaron factores relacionados a la velocidad de reducción post marsupialización de queratoquiste odontogénico mandibular en pacientes atendidos en la Centro Dental Docente de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia entre los años 2010 a 2019.Background: Odontogenic keratocyst is a pathology that originates from remnants of the dental lamina, characterized by slow growth and a high level of local aggressiveness. For the treatment of large lesions or risk of compromising anatomical structures, the marsupialization surgical technique is an option, which reduces the internal pressure of the lesion through the formation of a window in the oral mucosa and the cystic wall. thereby achieving the reduction of its dimensions over time. Objective: To determine the factors related to the post-marsupialization reduction speed of mandibular odontogenic keratocyst in patients treated at the Dental Teaching Center of the Cayetano Heredia University between the years 2010 to 2019. Materials and Methods: The research was observational. , descriptive and retrospective. The information was collected through the observation of panoramic radiographs and medical records of 32 patients from the UPCH Teaching Dental Clinic with a confirmed histopathological diagnosis of odontogenic keratocyst who underwent the marsupialization procedure and the respective controls during the period from 2010 to 2019. Results: An average post-marsupialization reduction speed of the pathology of 1.23 ± 4.67 mm2 per month was found, with no significant differences according to sex, age, shape of the lesion, presence of septae post-operative time. Conclusions: No factors related to the speed of post-marsupialization reduction of mandibular odontogenic keratocyst were found in patients treated at the Dental Teaching Center of the Cayetano Heredia University between the years 2010 to 2019
