The legal regulation of the operation of prisons is an actual topic, as it affects not only the prisoner’s rights and safety, but also the safety of society as a whole. The Constitution of the Republic of Latvia says that everyone has the right to freedom and personal inviolability. But, if a person has committed a crime, the court can take their freedom away and imprison them. In such a situation, it is important to ensure that the operation of prisons complies with the laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia, as well as international standards and human rights. In addition, all prisons were built in the last century, and are outdated, they don’t meet modern requirements. Resocialization of ex-prisoners is very important.
