From Neuron To Network: Measurement, Analysis And Modeling - Part 6: Braintool - An integrated workbench for neuronal modeling and for rapid prototyping

Abstract

Part 5 reviewed different models of neurons and provided a survey of appropriate simulation tools. Part 6 will terminate this series `From neuron to network: Measurement, analysis and modeling' with a tutorial section describing an implementation of a neuron model with Matlab/Simulink and a typical application of it. 1 Introduction This final part describes the implementation of a biophysical model within a programming environment for rapid prototyping of neuronal models used and customized in the Braintool project. Braintool is an interdisciplinary research project within the Swiss priority programme Biotechnology (module: Neuroinformatics). The aim of the project is to study and simulate the information processing in biological neural networks and to develop neuromorphic artificial neural network algorithms and architectures of the 3rd generation which are more biologically inspired than traditional artificial neural networks. The research is based on a close collaboration between t..
