Abstracts / Resuscitation 96S (2015) 43–157 63listened from CD videos about the BLS algorithm (based on 2010ERC BLS guidelines). Those presentations were prepared who areinstructor of ERC in Turkey. The control group 2 (n=30) took partin a 2h theoretical course. Those presentationswere providedwitha commentary of a university teacher who had been trained in BLS.The next day they were examined in practical BLS skills performedon a Resusci Anne® Skill Guide manikin (Laerdal, Norway). In theexam students had to perform all rescue actions in accordancewiththe adult BLS skills was evaluated on the basis of the quality of theperformance score.Results: Regardless of teaching method used, signiﬁcant differ-ences were found among the students in preparatory BLS actionson amanikin. The study group1 students (E-learning) achieved30%(n=9) advanced CPR performer, 20% (n=6) intermediate CPR per-former, 50% (n=15) basic CPR performer, and the control groupstudents (theoretical) achieved 10% (n=3) advanced CPR per-former, 20% (n=6) intermediate CPR performer, 70% (n=21) basicCPR performer.Conclusions: Students of both groups learned a lot of thinksabout BLS after the training. E-learning group does more improveboth the knowledge and competent pyschomotor skills of non-health school students than classical teaching programme. The grey literature was also searched using Med-Nar. To be selected for inclusion, studies had to document humancases of in- or out-of hospital cardiac arrest where CPR quality hadbeen recordedusing an automateddevice and linked to patient sur-vival. Both adult and paediatric studies were considered. Databasesearches were restricted to articles published from January 1994to April 2015. Where indicated (I2 <75%), meta-analysis using arandom-effects model was undertaken to examine the relation-ship between individual CPRquality parameters and either survivalto hospital discharge (STHD) or return of spontaneous circulation(ROSC).Results: Twenty-two relevant papers were identiﬁed fromamong 8842 unique citations. Thirteen papers were included inthemeta-analysis. Chest compression depthwas signiﬁcantly asso-ciated with STHD (mean difference (MD) between survivors andnon-survivors was 2.59mm, 95% CI: 0.71, 4.47); and with ROSC(MD 0.99mm, 95% CI: 0.04, 1.93). Compression rate was signiﬁ-cantly associatedwithSTHD; survivorsdemonstrateda lowermeancompression rate than non-survivors (MD −1.17 compressions perminute, 95% CI: −2.21, −0.14). Compression fraction could not beexamined by meta-analysis due to high heterogeneity, however ahigher compression fraction appeared to be linked to survival incases with a shockable initial rhythm.Conclusions: Chest compression depth and rate were signif-icantly associated with survival outcomes. Chest compressions were performed ona Simulaids Brad CPR torso. The participants were allowed 1minto familiarise themselves with the method of feedback. They thenperformed chest compressions during 2min using the three dif-ferent AEDs, provided in a random order. Success was deﬁned asmore than 70% of the chest compressions delivered in an interval of±5mm around the target depth. For each AED, 3 attempts of 2minwere allowed.Results:We included 61 participants: 17 paramedics, 39 nursesand ﬁve physicians. After the ﬁrst attempt, 82%, 68% and 61% suc-ceeded at 5, 6 and 7 cm, respectively. The success rate increased to97%,97%and84%after threeattempts. For theﬁrst, secondand thirdattempt, therewas a signiﬁcant differencebetween the success rateat 7 cm and 5cm (P=0.013, 0.004, 0.033).Conclusions:Guided by visual feedback, a speciﬁc compressiondepth of 5 and 6 cm could be achieved by almost all professionalrescuers, but achieving 7 cm was difﬁcult.
