IPS and recovery

Abstract

Bachelor i sosialt arbeid Fakultet for helse og sosialvitenskap Institutt for velferd og deltakelseThe purpose of this bachelor thesis is to examine why and in what way Individual placement and support (IPS) can support a recovery process for people with severe mental illness. To find research that can give insight to the topic question, I chose to do a literature review. Four studies are included in this literature review. The findings shows that many has good experiences with IPS. Many experience that IPS has a positive effect on their self-esteem, hope for the future and quality of life. It turns out that the job specialist has an important impact on the participants. The findings indicate that IPS can support a recovery process because many experiences that they are acknowledged, respected and valued by the job specialist. This seems to cause increased self-esteem and hope for the future. Many get a paid job or get experiences with a paid job through IPS. The findings shows that this seems to increase engagement in the community and social inclusion. Because of this, it seems that IPS can support a recovery process in some ways. The findings also show that not everyone experience this positive effect of IPS.BSV5-30
