Abstract

Quand le terrain s’impose, le récit aussi. L’exposé synoptique qui, selon Johannes Fabian, caractérise le genre anthropologique savant et marque ses limites laisse, en fait, parfois la place à des épisodes narratifs. Sur la base de quelques exemples, on suggère que ces récits semblent intervenir lorsque l’auteur veut restituer le mouvement par lequel il a été amené à changer d’idées ou de projets par l’évidence que lui impose le terrain. Et souvent aussi, cette articulation est déterminante pour l’orientation de l’écrit proposé. The synoptic account which, according to Johannes Fabian, characterises the learned anthropological genre and its limitations actually leaves room, on occasion, for narrative episodes. Drawing on a number of examples, this article suggests that these narratives appear to occur when the author wishes to reconstruct the movement through which he was led to change his views or projects because of evidence imposed on him by the field. And often, this link is decisive in determining the orientation of the writing. It is therefore more than just a rhetorical procedure, but a form that imposes itself
