This landmark new publication marks another historic moment for APTA Oncology as we continue to grow and position ourselves for the future to meet the needs of our members and, most importantly, the patients and communities that we serve. The academy now has two official publications, Rehabilitation Oncology – the scientific, peer-reviewed publication, and Oncology Rehabilitation in Practice, which is an editor reviewed, open access publication with the aim to advance clinical practice, advocacy, and governance for our specialization area. I am so grateful for the expertise and hard work of Bryan Spinelli and the entire editorial board of Oncology Rehabilitation in Practice for this landmark achievement. Additionally, a special recognition goes out to Mary Fisher for her support of this new publication and the University of Dayton for being our first official publisher of this new publication. Also, special thanks to Maureen Schlangen in the University of Dayton Libraries for her publication expertise and support. I look forward to reading each and every issue in depth. I hope that each of you can consider submitting a case report, quality improvement project, or other article to help improve the collective care we provide to those affected by cancer and chronic diseases. It has been a busy and exciting year so far for APTA Oncology! In addition to the new publication, we are in the final stages of transitioning to a new member management system and website. This promises to have more convenient access to key member resources and allow for seamless offerings of our wide variety of programs, publications, special interest groups, and meetings. We look forward to sharing all of the new bells and whistles with you! On our new website, you will be able to review the Academy’s new strategic plan which will truly set the foundation for the next several years and promises to advance clinical practice, networking, mentorship, and stability for the academy and the profession.  iv Oncology Rehabilitation in Practice Volume 1, Issue 1 One notable new initiative set forth in this strategic plan is the establishment of the Academy’s first ever public policy and legislative agenda. This forthcoming document will set the stage for what we as an academy believe is important to address to improve rehabilitative care for people with cancer. This document will be used to prioritize the Academy’s advocacy, policy, and legislative efforts and strategic partnerships for the next several years.  Finally, an organization’s future is highly dependent on the ability and preparation of the next generation of leaders. The Academy is fully leaning into the role of embracing the student and new professional member and welcoming them into the APTA Oncology family and leadership. We welcome you with open arms! I have been a member of the APTA and several other organizations for over 25 years and I can honestly say that I have never encountered such a welcoming, positive, supportive and friendly group as our APTA Oncology members. While it might be tough to strike up a conversation with a colleague that you just met or a leader you know about only from publications, I ask that you please do! You may be pleasantly surprised that they are more than happy to talk, mentor, and support you in your career growth. To this end, the Academy will be relaunching its popular Mentorship Program intended to connect new PTs, PTAs and students with an established colleague to advance their professional career and prepare them for their next career evolution. Oncology Rehabilitation in Practice Volume 1, Issue 1 v Editorial Board Message We are excited to present to you the first issue of Oncology Rehabilitation in Practice, an official publication of APTA Oncology. This publication has been created to serve as resource for practicing clinicians to foster professional development and advance clinical practice by publishing articles related to oncology, lymphatic diseases, and immune system disorders relevant to rehabilitation providers. We hope to improve awareness about professional issues and rehabilitation needs of people living with and beyond cancer and other health conditions. Additionally, we will strive for interprofessional collaboration and education by calling for submissions from all rehabilitation providers involved in the care of persons affected by cancer, lymphatic diseases, or immune system disorders.  Oncology Rehabilitation in Practice will be an avenue for the governance of APTA Oncology and corresponding Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to share information. Oncology Rehabilitation in Practice will feature messages from the President of APTA Oncology and the Editorial Board or Editor-in-Chief of Oncology Rehabilitation in Practice. Each issue will include Clinical Conversation or Research Round Up columns. Clinical Conversations will share perspectives about clinical approaches, rehabilitation needs, or professional issues. Research Round Ups will critically appraise research studies and discuss clinical implications. Other columns may include product, technology, or book reviews. Issues will also include research reports, literature reviews, or case reports or case series. Pilot studies or studies with small sample size will be considered. Literature reviews may be narrative reviews or scoping reviews. Case reports or case series do not need to be based on a rare condition or occurrence. Case reports or case series that describe clinical scenarios commonly seen in practice and demonstrate evidence-informed practice are welcome. Additionally, we encourage first-time or novice authors to submit articles. The editorial board will support authors by providing meaningful and constructive feedback to improve their articles as needed. ABOUT THIS ISSUE The first article is a research report that describes the outcomes of an in-person educational session related to cancer prevention in community-dwelling older adults. There are four Clinical Conversations included in this issue. The first and second Clinical Conversations discuss two chemotherapy-induced side effects that may not be as commonly recognized and addressed by rehabilitation providers. The first Clinical Conversation provides information about screening and management of chemotherapy-induced vestibulotoxicity. The second Clinical Conversation discusses the impact of chemotherapy-induced sarcopenia and the need for an interdisciplinary approach for prevention and treatment. The third Clinical vi Oncology Rehabilitation in Practice Volume 1, Issue 1 Conversation provides an overview of the physiology of pain and highlights the communication skills needed for implementing psychologically informed interventions. The fourth Clinical Conversation provides a summary of the Lymphedema Treatment Act and discusses its impact on lymphedema care.  Please enjoy the first issue of Oncology Rehabilitation in Practice.
