In the last few years (pandemic and post pandemic), there has been a significant surge in the utilization of collaboration technologies/tools such as MS Teams, Webex, VooV Meeting, and Zoom (amongst others). Additionally, the advent of Metaverse opens up new opportunities for advancing information technology (IT) enabled collaboration for development across global organizations. These emerging trends have received considerable attention from both, academic scholars and practitioners in the field. Existing research has investigated diffusion (adoption, implementation, and utilization) of collaboration technologies at the individual level, team level, and organization level in developed economies of Western Europe and North America. However, there is scarcity of research on IT-enabled collaboration in developing regions like East Europe, Asia, and Africa. Our minitrack “Information Technology (IT) Enabled Collaboration for Development” was introduced to fill the void in the literature by focusing on the diffusion of collaborative information technologies, including the processes and systems design, methods, modeling, and techniques for collaboration in developing regions. We expect to provide more forward-looking insights on IT-enabled collaboration in developing regions. This year, we accepted six papers for inclusion in the HICSS conference proceedings. The first paper is co-authored by Yue Hu, Bo Yang, Tong Xue, and Yao Chen, and is titled “Exploring the factors affecting job satisfaction and performance of telework in Chinese IT companies - based on the employees' self-efficacy”. Drawing on theories of self-efficacy, boundary, and resource conservation, this study explores the factors influencing employees’ job satisfaction and performance in teleworking. The research model is empirically tested with 210 employees in Chinese IT companies. The results indicate that leadership empowerment and self-efficacy are positively related to job satisfaction and job performance, respectively, with self-efficacy mediating the relationships. In addition, the moderating role of work-family conflict and teleworking hours are also examined. This study offers recommendations for IT managers and employees regarding teleworking practices. The second paper is co-authored by Man Ji, Xiayu Chen, Shaobo Wei, Qi Liu, Jianshan Sun, and is titled “Understanding the role of virtual anchor-brand image fit in virtual live streaming”. This study explores the antecedents of purchase intention in virtual live streaming. The influencing mechanism is further illustrated by identifying two key mediators (i.e., processing fluency and perceived affinity). A between-subject lab experiment is adopted to examine the hypotheses. The results indicate that both image and voice fit have a positive influence on purchase intentions, while processing fluency and perceived affinity mediate the relationship. This study contributes to the virtual live streaming literature and provides insights into how to design virtual anchors. The third paper is co-authored by Hsiao-Ting Tseng, Xin-Cheng Dong, Shu-Chiung Lin, and Jian Mou and is titled “Emotional reactions in information dissemination through the lens of SOR theory”. This study explores the chain effect of information sentiment dissemination in relation to the generation characteristics of news text content. By collecting news from mainstream media and training a BERT model, the authors classify the headlines. Additionally, stimulus-organism-response theory is adopted to understand the stimuli effects of online news in social media on audiences. The results indicate that the sentiment in news headlines significantly affects the readers’ dissemination behavior and subsequent emotional responses. Overall, this study provides insights for both journalists and readers, enabling them to comprehend the difficulties encountered within the digital news landscape. The fourth paper selected for the proceedings co-authored by Jia Jin, Xue Sun, and Yu Pan is titled “Starting determines result? The Influence of status quo bias on software update decisions: Evidence from hierarchical drift diffusion model”. This study investigates how status quo bias affect the decision-making process and results, by modeling the decision-making process in the context of software updating. The results reveal that individuals with status quo bias had larger starting points than those without status quo bias. This indicates that individuals with status quo bias already had a tendency not to update before the update decision began, which leads them to make a non-update decision more quickly. The findings provide valuable insights for software vendors. The fifth paper selected for the proceedings is co-authored by Pingpanya Phommilath, Haiming Wu, and Nan Zhang and is titled “Officials development aid and the sustainable development of e-government in a developing country: The case of Laos”. This study investigates the issues that prevent the sustainability of the ODA e-government using interview and in-depth observation as data collection method. The authors identify key factors determining the success and failure of e-government. This study provides helpful evidence for future government ODA programs.
