Abstract
University extension is present in most of Brazilian universities, and can be presented in several formats, but all of them with the objective of enriching the student's education and the dissemination of knowledge outside the academic environment. Between all the forms of university extension, there are athletics associations, study centers and interest groups. In this context, the Geriatric Dentistry Interest Group was created and the main objective is to spread the knowledge about geriatric dentistry among dentistry students, since it is an area that receives little attention in most Brazilian universities. The interest group wants to arouse the interest in the area among academics about the importance of this specialty in dentistry. In addition, the group also wants to put the knowledge acquired by students into practice, taking it to the community. This dissemination of knowledge is made through projects and actions planned by the academics with the supervising teacher.A extensão universitária está presente na grande maioria das universidades brasileiras, e se apresenta em diversos formatos, mas todos com o objetivo de enriquecer a formação do aluno e a disseminação de conhecimento para fora do ambiente acadêmico. Entre as diversas formas de extensão universitárias existem as atléticas, os núcleos de estudos e as ligas acadêmicas. Nesse contexto que foi criada a Liga Acadêmica de Odontotogeriatria, que tem como principal objetivo aprofundar os conhecimentos sobre a Odontogeriatria entre os acadêmicos de odontologia, uma vez é uma área que recebe pouca atenção na maioria das universidades brasileiras. Com isso a liga busca despertar o interesse sobre a área entre os acadêmicos sobre a importância dessa especialidade na odontologia. Além disso, a liga também busca colocar o conhecimento adquirido pelos alunos em prática, levando-o para a comunidade. Essa disseminação de conhecimento é realizada através de projetos e ações planejadas pelo grupo de acadêmicos junto ao professor orientador
