The identity of the laity, like that of the priesthood, has its source in the Holy Trinity and is revealed in the mystery of the Church. For lay people, the identity of the faithful is an inseparable element of the identity of the laity—ad extra, and for priests, it is an inseparable element of priestly identity—ad intra. Apostolate is a specific feature of the identity of the laity, which is manifested in the fulfillment of a vocation in the Church and in the world. Service to humanity and society and participation in ministries carried out in the dimension of the priestly, prophetic and kingly mission of Christ require cooperation of the laity with the hierarchical priesthood. Nowadays, pastoral promotion of the laity is necessary.Tożsamość laikatu, podobnie jak prezbitera ma swoje źródło w Trójcy Świętej i ujawnia się w tajemnicy Kościoła. Tożsamość wiernych jest dla świeckich nieodłącznym elementem tożsamości laikatu – ad extra, zaś dla prezbiterów nieodłącznym elementem tożsamości kapłańskiej – ad intra. Apostolstwo stanowi specyficzny rys tożsamości laikatu, które przejawia się w realizacji powołania w Kościele oraz w świecie. Służba człowiekowi i społeczeństwu oraz uczestnictwo w posługach realizowanych w wymiarze misji kapłańskiej, prorockiej i królewskiej Chrystusa domaga się współpracy świeckich z kapłaństwem hierarchicznym.
