Abstract

Clashes between gangs and civilians who strived to reduce violence in Artibonite led to violation of human rights. Many people were killed, and others nursed injuries due to the war. The perceived attacks led to the intervention of police and self-help defense groups, but it was too late to avoid the damages already caused. Informal miners undertook violent demonstrations to fight for their rights. Several constitutional rights were suspended as local and international organizations denounced human rights violations, and many gang members were arrested
