This is a creative project with many elements. All of my work in the subject of Brazilian Jazz this year culminates in my reflective paper, transcriptions, and a small collection of my compositions and recordings. The initial focus is on Brazilian Jazz woodwind playing during the 20th century. Through the process of listening and transcribing 7 songs, I have become more fluent in the language of Brazilian music. In the second phase, I composed 4 songs a Samba, a Bossa Nova, a Choro, and a Lambada. The main feature of this project came from the final phase. In collaboration with more than a dozen Berklee student musicians and five audio engineers, we recorded 5 songs over the span of 6 months at the state of the art Berklee Valencia Scoring stage. We recorded Antonio Carlos Jobim’s Chega de Saudade and 4 of my original compositions. These 5 songs have been mixed, once mastered they will be part of my debut EP “A Taste of Brazil.” My plan is to release these songs in the coming months.https://remix.berklee.edu/graduate-studies-contemporary-performance/1110/thumbnail.jp
