Southall cIn 2021, Catalysis Science & Technologycelebrated its 10 year anniversary,cementing its position as an establishedinternational journal in the field ofcatalysis. 2023 ushers in newdevelopments for Catalysis Science &Technology, and as such we would like toshare this important journal news withour valued authors, readers and thewider catalysis community.We are sorry to say that at the end of2022, Javier Pérez-Ramírez retired asEditor-in-Chief of the Editorial Board.Javier is a leader in the field of catalysisengineering for sustainabletechnologies, and he has played apivotal role in shaping the journal forover a decade, both as an AssociateEditor and Editor-in-Chief. Please joinus in thanking Javier for hisoverwhelming enthusiasm, inspirationalleadership and invaluable contributionsover this time. We are however verypleased that Javier will continue toremain actively involved with RoyalSociety of Chemistry Publishing as thisyear he takes on the Chair of the Boardrole for our companion journal GreenChemistry. Javier will be uniquely well-placed to ensure that the links betweenthese two journals in the wider area ofsustainability will be stronglymaintained.We are delighted to announce thatJavier's successor is Bert Weckhuysen.Based at Utrecht University, Bert is apioneer in the area of advanced in situand operando characterizationtechniques for catalysis. Suchtechniques enable rational design ofcatalyst materials at different scales andfor a wide variety of importantapplications and technologies insustainability, energy and beyond. Weare excited to work with Bert as he leadsthe Editorial Board and journal tocontinued success – his expertise,strong leadership, commitment toequality, diversity and inclusion as wellas his abundant passion will beinstrumental to the journal's continuedgrowth and success.Javier shares the following reflection,“The last 11 years on the Editorial Boardof Catalysis Science & Technology,including 7 years as Associate Editorand 4 years as Editor-in-Chief, havebeen memorable. I have overseen thejournal's growth into a well-established,respected, diverse, and inclusive journalfor practitioners to publish and followexciting developments in the field ofcatalysis. I am delighted that BertWeckhuysen is taking over the role.Under the leadership of Bert and theeditorial team, I am convinced that thejournal will reach new heights”.Bert shared his vision for the journalunder his leadership, “The rapiddevelopment of sustainability inchemistry, energy, and materials scienceasks for a flagship broad-scopeinterdisciplinary scientific journal in thefield of catalysis that not only fostersfundamental science in the moretraditional catalysis fields, but alsobrings in new, often somewhat moreremotely developed methods, materials,and insights that not only inspire, butalso continuously rejuvenate the field ofcatalysis. The introduction of such newdevelopments, often achieved byinterdisciplinary or transdisciplinarycollaborations, will keep catalysis avibrant field for new scientificdiscoveries as well as technologicalbreakthroughs, leading to practical in-house as well as large industrialapplications”.Bert added, “Catalysis Science &Technology distinguishes itself as aunique journal in its ambition toshowcase both fundamental scientificinsights (the “Catalysis Science” part ofthe journal title) and more applications-focussed, industrial and sustainability-related aspects of catalysis (the“Technology” part of the journal title).
