UPAYA YANG DILAKUKAN KELUARGA DALAM MERAWAT KARIES GIGI PADA ANAK PRASEKOLAH

Abstract

Background: Dental caries is among the prevalent issues frequently encountered in Indonesian society. Dental caries is triggered by Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacilli bacteria, which can affect anyone, including preschool children. Generally, preschoolers rely on their parents for dental health care, particularly mothers who have the closest relationship with preschoolers. Purpose: To investigate the endeavors employed by families in managing dental caries in preschool-aged children. Method: The research methodology employed a qualitative approach, utilizing a case study to investigate the specific circumstances faced by the subjects. The research validity was strengthened by employing triangulation through direct interviews with three participants. Results: The research findings yield an analysis of interview data conducted by the researcher and validated by participants, revealing one primary theme: family efforts in managing dental caries in children. Conclusion: Families play a crucial role in aiding the dental caries treatment process in children. The family-initiated care for preschool children involves reducing sweet food intake, establishing regular teeth brushing habits, and cleaning a child's dental caries using a cloth dampened with warm water. The family holds significant importance in the care of a child's dental caries, serving as guides, reminders, and educators concerning the oral health of preschoolers
