Se trató de hacer germinar tres semillas de Canna sp. cuya edad se calcula aproximadamente en 550 años.
De las tres semillas, la primera fue colocada en condiciones de humedad y temperatura adecuadas, sin obtener germinación. La segunda fue sembrada en forma aséptica sobre un medio agar, con nutrientes minerales, orgánicos y reguladores, germinando rápidamente pero presentando ciertas anormalidades.
La tercera fue sometida a dichos nutrientes y reguladores pero en forma escalonada, siu que germinara.
La planta obtenida ha completado su desarrollo, floreciendo y produciendo semillas. Se diferenció de varias formas controles, en su falta inicial de geotropismo, ramificación precoz de raíces embrionales y mayor macollaje.
Se considera, de acuerdo a la bibliografía consultada, que es la semilla más Santigua que ha germinado.Three Canna sp. seeds, their age approximately estimated in 550 years, were tried to be germinated. The second one was sown in an aseptip way on an agar medium adding to it some mineral and organic nutrients and also some regulators. The seed germinated rapidly but showed off certain abnormalities.
The third seed was equally treated but employing a succeeding procedure.
It didn’t germinate.
The plant obtained has completed its growth, blooming and yielding seeds.
Now considering its inicial lacking of geotropism, precocious ramifications of its embryonal roots and larger «tillering», it showed differences from normal plants.
