Research on the demand for psychological support of university students - 2021

Abstract

The main practical aim of the project was to obtain data, using a diagnostic survey method, on students' self-identified mental health problems and to determine the level of perceived social support. This information formed the basis for implementing outreach activities. Scientific objectives: 1) conducting psychometric analyses to verify the structure of the Centre for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale Revised (CESD-R) in a sample of university students; 2) analyzing intensity of depression symptoms group according to gender; 3) determining the relationship between experienced academic stress and depressive symptoms among students, while including mediator variables related to their studies; 4) using a person-centred approach, identify clusters that include the following variables: academic stress, depressive symptoms and perceived social support. The participants in the study were students from all faculties of a Polish university. The sample was set at 10% of all students and finally consisted of 1519 students. Data for analysis were collected using the Centre for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale Revised (CESD-R), the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and with usage of the author's survey
