Trends in Pharmacological Treatment for Sensory Disorders of the Inferior Alveolar Nerve: A Systematic Scoping Review

Abstract

Paresthesias in the face can be caused by various factors, including inferior alveolar nerve injury. Pharmacological treatment may be an option to alleviate the symptoms. The aim of this study is to present a scoping review regarding the available evidence in the literature on the treatment of facial sensory disorders resulting from traumatic injuries of the inferior alveolar nerve. To achieve this, the study will follow the PRISMA protocol, and data will be searched across multiple databases, including PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus, and Web of Science. It is expected to identify, in studies with stronger evidence, the usage of medications such as corticosteroids (prednisolone, betamethasone, and dexamethasone), dipyrone, lidocaine, vitamin complexes, and also to identify current treatment trends
