Nursing care for indigenous peoples in health services: a scoping review protocol

Abstract

Objective: Identify the nursing care provided by nurses to indigenous peoples in health services. Introduction: In the world there are about 400 million people who declare themselves indigenous. They suffer inequities in access to health services, in addition to belonging to groups with high morbidity and mortality rates due to communicable and non-communicable diseases. There is not enough understanding about the care offered and provided by nurses to indigenous peoples in different health services on the world stage. Inclusion criteria: This review will include primary studies from published literature and gray literature, with no restriction on language and year of publication, which address nursing care for indigenous peoples in different health services. Nursing care will include direct and indirect assistance actions and interventions for disease prevention, recovery and health promotion. Health services include: hospitals, clinics, communities, homes, basic health units and local health systems targeting indigenous peoples. Method: Scope review in which the databases CINAHL, Web of Science, Scopus, Portal CAPES do Brasil and Pubmed, LILACS, IBECS and Database of Health of Indigenous Peoples, the Brazilian Virtual Health Library and other literature bases will be consulted gray. Data will be collected between May and June 2023. The review will include quantitative, qualitative and mixed studies. The search in the databases and selection of studies will be carried out by two reviewers independently, following the inclusion criteria and checked by a third, in case inconsistencies are identified in the partial results, which will be resolved by consensus between the three reviewers.
