The invention relates to a demethoxylation process for demethoxylating alkylmethoxyphenols using an aromatic solvent to produce alkylphenols. The invention also relates to dealkylation process for dealkylating alkylphenols using an aromatic solvent to produce phenol. The invention further relates to a tandem demethoxylation and dealkylation process, which can be performed in a single reactor.
