Penetrating cervical trauma with trachea transection and esophageal injury: case report/ Traumatismo cervical penetrante com transecção da traqueia e lesão esofágica: relato de caso

Abstract

Cervical injuries are common and have high morbimortality. The cervical region is highly susceptible due to the structures present. Lesions in this area requires attention with the respiratory tract and continuous discussions over that intra-surgery management for the purpose defining protocols and techniques to provide better prognosis. Surgical exploration is mandatory for unstable patients, which requires experienced professionals to avoid catastrophic results. This report presents a case of a male patient victim of a car accident that resulted in penetrating cervical trauma by iron wire that culminated in tracheal transection and esophageal lesion, that as a result of early diagnosis and treatment and with multidisciplinary monitoring in the therapy it obtained a good evolution
