INTRODUCTION Phenomena that exist in society are the source of the author's thoughts in producing literary works. What is happening around will become interesting material for the author to express in written form, as views and reflections on people's lives. Literary works emerge from influences that are processed by the author with his imagination. To create a literary work, the author can invite critical readers through his work. Life issues are the focus of the writer's work, especially in prose format, around the conditions of discovery, values and social norms in people's lives. The problem is mainly in changing the personality and personality of the characters, to guide the reader towards different attitudes, mindsets and values. Grammatically the word battle has the meaning of activities between groups or individuals against real life. Short stories are organized on various levels; they simultaneously appeal to the reader's sense of realism, understanding, emotion and moral sensibility (Yusuf et al., 2022) Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck  is a novel that has a Minangkabau style. As stated by Fauziah (2019) This novel has elements of cultural values both among adolescents and adults. This novel was written to criticize several traditions in Minang adat that were in effect at that time, such as the treatment of people of mixed descent and the role of women in society. This was brought about by Hayati's efforts to become the perfect wife even though Aziz did not appreciate her. Hamka believes that some of these traditional traditions are not in accordance with the principles of Islam or common sense. Through the Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck , Hamka inflamed the spirit of national unity and unity in order to achieve independence by not widening differences between tribes and cultures. Novels that contain cultural values are the novels Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck and Tanah Para Bandits. Before choosing the two novels, the researcher has read the novel at a glance, from a cursory reading, the researcher found an overview of cultural values. These values include the human relationship with himself, the human relationship with God, the human relationship with each other and the human relationship with society (Hartanto et al., 2022).  METHODE of the analysis of cultural values in the novel The Sinking of the Van Der Wijck Ship by Buya Hamka and the novel Tanah Para Bandits by tere Liye contain 79 data. Article writing that complies with refined spelling rules is inseparable from the media that publishes the writing (Oktafiani et al., 2022)  DISCUSSION  Novel is a fictional story in the form of writing or words that has a building element. According to Agustina (2022) the novel is one of the media that can be used to convey social conditions in society because the novel is one of the prose that helps humans understand and understand life's problems through character images and has moral, psychological, cultural, and social values. contained therein. Literary criticism is a part of literary studies that discusses whether a literary work is valuable or not (Sulaeman et al., 2021)  1. Analysis of Cultural Values Cultural values are an abstract idea of what is good and what society really wants. Cultural values in society are conveyed through customs, norms, laws, vision and mission, slogans that become a reference for the social environment. Cultural value analysis was conducted to determine the extent to which cultural values are contained in both novels. a. Cultural Values of Human Relations with God Sastrapratedja states that basically humans are homo religious, that is, religious beings. Homo religious is a type of human being who lives in a sacred realm, full of religious values and can enjoy the sacredness that exists and appears in the universe of the material world, the natural world of plants, the animal world, and the human world. Cultural values in the form of human relations with God in the novel entitled The Sinking of the Van Der Wijck Ship by Buya Hamka can be identified as follows: 1) The Value of Piety Piety can be interpreted as a human being who does all His commands and stays away from his prohibitions in the novel entitled Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck Ship by Buya Hamka, shown by Zainuddin who obeys Allah SWT's commands by frequently praying, carrying out prayers and believing in all destiny and destiny. God's decree is the best thing to live. Meanwhile, in Tere Liye's novel Tanah Para Bandit, the value of piety is found in the character Agam, who tries very hard to learn the Koran and pray even though his parents often oppose him. 2) The Value of Surrender The value of surrender or Tawakal is surrender completely to Allah SWT. And believe everything that happens is the fruit of a situation. The value of surrender in Buya Hamka's novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck is shown by Zainuddin's attitude of never giving up even though his life is very sad. He always believes that prayers and efforts never let him down. 3) Value Like Praying Prayer is the essence of worship, the power of prayer in religion is extraordinary, by praying we can change destiny, by praying we can change something that is difficult to be easy The value of praying in the novel The Van's Ship Drowned Buya Hamka's Der Wijck is illustrated by the character Zainuddin, a pious person who always prays for Allah's pleasure for all the destinies he has passed. Cultural values included in the human relationship with God in Buya Hamka's novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck and Tanah Para Bandits include the value of piety, the value of surrender and believing in the power of prayer.   b. Cultural Value of Human Relations with Nature Koenjaraningrat (2015) argues that nature is a unit of human life wherever it is. This environment forms, colors or becomes the object of ideas arising from human thought patterns. Because of that, there are cultures that see the natural world as something so terrible that humans basically just give up, without even trying to fight it. On the other hand, there are also cultures that see nature as something that humans should fight against, humans are obliged to always try to conquer it. Besides that, there are also other cultures that think that humans can only try to find harmony with nature. The cultural value of human relations with nature contained in the novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck is reflected in the very beautiful storytelling of Minangkabau country, the Batipuh hamlet which is surrounded by a wide expanse of fields, making it a suitable place for Zainuddin as a poet. Cultural values included in the relationship between humans and nature in Buya Hamka's novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck and Tanah Para Bandits include utilization of nature, loving nature, unification.  c. Cultural Values in Human Relations with Society Koenjaraningrat (2015) society is a unit of human life that interacts according to certain customs that are sustainable and bound by a sense of shared identity. Cultural values included in the relationship between humans and nature in the novel Tenggelamnya Kapal  Van Der Wijck by Buya Hamka and the novel Tanah Para Bandits include 1) Compliance with Customs Adat is part of the cultural wealth of a region or nation. Norms are cultural forms that represent the customs, values, traditions, and customs of a group. In general, customs are used to guide the attitudes and behavior of citizens. The novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck is very thick with nuances of customs in it, including in regulating how attitudes and social strata are shown by which ancestry a person comes from. 2) Family  Kinship is a sense of care generated by a person or group in order to create a peaceful and serene relationship. Examples of family forms in the novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck are mutual trust, affection, and mutual cooperation. 3) Education Education is learning to increase knowledge and skills and habits passed down by a group of people through teaching, research and training. Education in the novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van der Wijck by Buya Hamka is characterized by Zainuddin's education who went to seek knowledge, studied interpretation and education contained in the novel Tanah Para Bandits found in Padma who continued to study with Abu Syik. Cultural values included in the relationship between humans and nature in the novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck by Buya Hamka include obedience to customs, kinship and education, while in the novel and Tanah Para Bandits there is only educational value.  d. Cultural Values in Human Relations with Others Humans are social creatures who really need the presence of other people in their lives. As social beings, solving something cannot be separated from the interference of other people, although some are personal. The social value in the contents of the story contained in the novel is an author's writing to convey something that exists in people's lives. Like a group that implements, prioritizes and creates it, it will set an example for the environment, not only that, but the same as togetherness, mutual cooperation, caring and forgiveness, people will unknowingly emulate it because social values bring out individual values that are owned by a person. Through association, this value is finally accepted by many people so that it becomes a social value that applies in society. Cultural values that are included in human relations with other people in the novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck by Buya Hamka and the novel Tanah Para Bandits include alert, refusal, curiosity, concern, love to share, love one another, help each other, familiarity, responsibility and courtesy.  e. The Cultural Value of Human Relations with Oneself Humans were created by God as social beings and individual beings, as individual human beings who have personal rights that must be respected by others. The relationship between humans and themselves is called interpersonal relations, namely how a person is able to know about himself, understand his condition so that he is able to determine his own goals appropriately. Implementation of Literature Learning in Middle School  Learning literature in schools is divided into two, namely learning literature and learning language. In teaching literature activities here, there are several processes carried out starting from the introduction, understanding, appreciation, enjoyment and application. The introduction to this literary work can be done starting from reading, listening to even watching. This can be done continuously until it reaches the level of understanding. Self-understanding of literary works leads students to a level of appreciation. The indicators that are seen after experiencing a literary work are reading, listening to, or watching a literary work. Thus the quote contains social values, namely, the existence of a sense of care for others and a friendly attitude (Tartila et al., 2023). After living a literary work, students will enter the enjoyment phase, namely students are able to feel deeply the various beauties that exist in a literary work. In the last phase in learning literature, namely application. The application here is the end of an enjoyment in literary works, therefore students who feel the enjoyment of experience through their work, students will try to apply the values obtained in everyday life. Typically, this expansion of the meaning of the term is associated with the broader context that affects the meaning of the whole set of expressions (Muffidah et al., 2021)   CONCLUSION The conclusions obtained are based on the formulation, objectives, results, and discussion in the analysis of cultural values in the novel Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck by Buya Hamka and Novel Tanah Para Bandit by Tere Liye previously stated, described as follows. The results of the analysis of cultural values in the novel The Sinking of the Van Der Wijck Ship by Buya Hamka and the novel Tanah Para Bandits by tere Liye contain 79 data.
