PENGARUH TERPAAN ISU POLITIK DI INSTAGRAM TERHADAP PREFERENSI MAHASISWA PADA ISU PILPRES 2024 (Survei pada Mahasiswa Prodi Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang Angkatan 2020)

Abstract

Instagram social media has become an important platform for disseminating political information and influencing public opinion. Students are a political constituency who often use Instagram as a source of information. This research wants to reveal how exposure to political issues on Instagram influences students' preferences for the 2024 presidential election issue. This research uses Agenda Setting theory, where the media agenda has the ability to influence public preferences on a number of issues, including political issues with certain topics. Instagram social media has become a means of information about the 2024 presidential election issue, so it is estimated that it can influence students' agendas and preferences regarding the 2024 presidential election issue. The more political issues that are raised and highlighted on Instagram, the more it can influence their preferences in choosing a presidential candidate. This research was carried out using a quantitative approach using a survey of Communication Sciences students at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Class of 2020. Questionnaires were given to a sample of students who met the criteria. The collected data was analyzed using the Pearson Correlation coefficient test. After that, use the determination test to analyze this research. The results of the research show that the Pearson Correlation test is 0.5433 and the determination test is 29.5%, so exposure to political issues on Instagram has a significant effect on student preferences in the 2024 Presidential Election. This research states that H1 is accepted and verified that the Agenda Setting theory is still relevant in relation to Social media can influence a person's preferences or agenda. Thus, it can be concluded that Instagram is one of the media that can influence student preferences in the context of the 2024 presidential election issue among students
