And the more languages a person knows, the more information he or she can consume and spread in society. Thus, telling about themselves, their country, business, etc. The Ukrainian people faced such a need after the Russian invasion, because the only way to provide other countries with truthful information quickly is to speak the same language. The purpose of our study is to research the latest trends in learning foreign languages, their peculiarities and advantages.  As you know, the most widely spoken language in the world is English, and according to the EF English Proficiency Index for 2022, Ukraine has a moderate percentage of English-speaking citizens and ranks only 35th out of 111 countries, despite the fact that almost every Ukrainian learns English at school (2).  It is generally believed that this may be due to some peculiarities of the school curriculum, which is focused more on the language grammar and subsequent writing of the written exam. Before learning anything, especially a language, you need to understand why you want to master it.  The goal may be different: to keep up with globalization processes, to get a desired job, to go abroad to work, to write an exam, to improve, but any of the above requires discipline and desire. The first method is self-study through free platforms. In the era of globalization, there are many different apps, websites, and programs for learning any language. Many of these platforms have opened up free access to their materials for Ukrainians after the Russian invasion, and here are a few of them:  Duolingo, a well-known language learning platform, has granted Ukrainians permission to use its mobile app for free, where they can improve their English and other foreign languages.  The app, called Ling App, offers more than 60 language courses. Learning takes place through mini-games and quizzes. In addition, users can practice their skills with a language Chatbot.  You can learn more than 140 languages in the UTalk app. The app has a lot of vocabulary, commonly used words and phrases grouped by topic. All you need to do is download any of the apps through the Play Market or App Store and set Ukrainian as your native language (3). The second method is the method of learning a spoken language through video games. It is suitable for teenagers and progressive adults and will definitely appeal to avid gamers. All you need to do is install the English version of your favourite game and learn the language with interactivity, simulated real-life situations, and the pleasure of your favourite hobby. In this format, the spoken language is improved at a convenient pace and the information is absorbed unobtrusively (4). People who are not interested in games can watch movies, TV shows, read articles and interesting books, listen to music in the language they want to learn, thereby developing audio-visual perceptions of the language through other sources of information. The goal is to teach a person to think in a foreign language. There is no translation of words and phrases into the native language at all – this makes it clear that every word and sentence is not subject to literal translation, so you need to quickly adapt to the new language. This method is most often used by students who go to foreign countries to study on exchange, but it can also be used by Ukrainians who were forced to go abroad during the war (1). To summarize, we can note that thanks to the processes of globalization and modernization, the development of the Internet, social networks, and audio-visual art, the modern world has a variety of interesting and useful ways to learn foreign languages that are suitable for everyone: people of all ages, financial status – free and paid education, people with different preferences and professions. Every year, the percentage of Ukrainians who speak foreign languages is growing because people realize that in order to communicate freely with the world they need to constantly improve their linguistic knowledge.
