People use the internetevery day, searching for information, producing information,commenting and sharing the information they think isvaluable. These actions leaves signals that can be used totrack diseases dynamics, enable real-time event-based surveil-lance, investigate health behaviors, understand health topicsrelevant or neglected by the people. Furthermore, increasingcomputational power, smart mobile devices, techniques likeNatural Language Processing and Machine Learning giveaccess to new sources of data and allow to extract meaningfrom unstructured and complex information. Thesemethodologies fall under the name of Digital Epidemiology;modern Public Health officers need to be aware of how suchrevolution can improve their everyday work and reveal newhorizons.ResultsWe aim to deliver a workshop both conceptual and practical,where the discipline of Digital Epidemiology is introduced,new developments in the field are presented and participantsare involved in a hands-on simulation of an epidemiologicalstudy using the presented techniques.
