La cooperació transfronterera és un dels instruments de la integració europea i per això s’incentiva des de les institucions comunitàries. Es tracta d’impulsar la creació d’espais funcionals que tenen com a objectiu l’afebliment dels aspectes negatius dels efectes frontera. Comparant la integració transfronterera en diverses zones frontereres europees se’n desprèn la feblesa a l’espai català. De fet, no existeixen, en aquest Espai Català Transfronterer, mercats de treball integrats i hi ha pocs espais de quotidianitat (bassins de vie transfronterers). Aquest article aborda tres qüestions clau de la cooperació transfronterera a l’espai català. La primera, sobre els espais de cooperació transfronterera de Catalunya en el context europeu. La segona aporta una anàlisi de projectes Interreg i d’actors en l’Espai Català Transfronterer. La tercera remarca la importància de les comunicacions físiques, que són a la base de tota cooperació.Cross-border cooperation is one of the instruments used to further European integration, and this is why EU institutions encourage it. Its goal is to promote the creation of functional spaces that are capable of weakening the negative aspects of border effects. A comparison of cross-border integration in diferent border areas around Europe reveals the weakness of the Catalan space, given that there are no integrated job markets and few everyday spaces (cross-border bassins de vie or living/working areas) in this Catalan Cross-border Space. This article addresses three key issues in cross-border cooperation in the Catalan space. The first is about cross-border cooperation spaces in Catalonia within the context of Europe, the second analyses Interreg projects and projects by stakeholders in the Catalan Cross-border Space, and the third highlights the importance of physical connections, which are the foundation of all cooperation
