From silence to words. Experience of leading indogenous women from Xochistlahuaca, Guerrero

Abstract

Este artículo tiene como objetivo exponer las condiciones sociales, políticas y culturales en las que participan las mujeres indígenas de Xochistlahuaca Guerrero en su comunidad. Se pretende también reconocer cómo influye en ello el sistema de relaciones de género y el contexto en el que se desarrollan estos liderazgos. El grupo étnico al que pertenecen (amuzgos) y el estado en el que habitan (considerado históricamente como una de las entidades más violentas y pobres de México) hacen más relevante el caso de estas mujeres.The aim of this article is to examine the social, political and cultural conditions in which indigenous women from Xochistlahuaca Guerrero participate within their communities, and to explore how these are influenced by the system of gender relationships and the context in which their leaderships develop. The ethnic group to which they belong (amuzgos) and the state they live in (considered historically as one of the poorest and most violent in Mexico) make these women’s case more noteworthy
