Behaviour in schools

Abstract

Nearly all trainee teachers worry about behaviour in the classroom and about how they might manage challenging and disruptive behaviours. In this chapter you will be asked to think about how you can begin to understand behaviour management, what it is and what it means. It will introduce you to the rise of behaviourism, popular behavioural theories such as positive discipline and the draw towards a restorative approach to resolving difficult behaviours. Through case studies and a range of fundamental questions, a framework is given by which you can identify and develop a common set of preferred values and practices that can help you to work effectively with the most challenging of classes
