Abstract
The paper addresses the struggle between Canadian interests in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region and its linkage with the Canada-U.S. relationship during the first term of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's mandate (2015-2019). The analysis of the selected period allows us to analyze the differences in terms of Canadian policy positions towards LAC vis-à-vis during the Obama and Trump administrations. It deals with the importance of the U.S.-Canada relationship in Canada's projection towards the world, particularly in the relationship with Latin America and the Caribbean. The central theme is, in particular, how the Canadian relationship with the region has been forged, greatly influenced by the US, in a constant struggle between Canada's national interests and its dependence on the USEl presente trabajo aborda el conflicto existente entre los intereses canadienses en la región de América Latina y el Caribe y su relación con Estados Unidos durante el primer periodo del mandato del Primer Ministro Justin Trudeau (2015-2019). Mediante el análisis de esta etapa, se busca comprender las diferencias en las posturas políticas de Canadá hacia esta región durante las administraciones de Obama y Trump. Es fundamental destacar la importancia que tiene la relación entre Estados Unidos y Canadá en la proyección internacional de este último, especialmente en lo que respecta a su vínculo con América Latina y el Caribe. Se pone de manifiesto cómo esta relación ha sido moldeada, en gran medida, por la influencia de Estados Unidos, generando una constante lucha entre los intereses nacionales de Canadá y la dependencia de su vecino del sur
