Treball Final de Grau en Infermeria. Codi: IN1138. Curs: 2022/2023Introducción
Introduction
Perinatal loss is a very traumatic experience both for the families who suffer it and for the
professionals who assist them, especially if they don´t have the necessary knowledge for it. It
is defined as the loss that occurs between the 28th week of pregnancy and the early 28 days of
life, and for families it results in perinatal bereavement, a natural response to the loss.
Objectives
The main objective of this literature review is to describe the actions of nursing professionals
to facilitate bereavement in the care of families who have experienced a perinatal loss.
Methodology
In order to carry out an integrative review of the literature, a bibliographic search was carried
out in three databases; PubMed, Cochrane, and the Virtual Health Library. The following
descriptors were used to that end: perinatal bereavement, perinatal loss, perinatal death, and
nursing care.
Results
After appraising the quality of the articles obtained in the research, 16 articles have been
included.
Conclusion
Nursing staff can perform actions to facilitate perinatal bereavement in the hospital; such as
empathic communication, giving an identity to the baby and strengthening the bond.
Psychoeducation, psychotherapy, physical activity, and follow-up programs are beneficial
activities for bereavement in which nursing participates after discharge. In addition, risk factors
that hinder the bereavement process should be considered and the Perinatal Grief Scale can be
used to evaluate perinatal grief
