Se a linguagem é responsável por garantir a existência do sujeito que percebe, abstrai e diz o mundo à sua volta, garantido a identidade e a diferença das coisas, a literatura moderna, em alguns de seus aspectos, fez desaparecer aquilo que servia de suporte ao ato linguístico, ao falante e ao seu discurso. O sujeito ou o eu que fala se fragmentou e se dispersou até desaparecer num espaço vazio de profundo silêncio, longe dos significados da língua e da dinastia da representação. Queremos perceber, então, de que modo se dá esta dissolução a partir de um texto de Kafka de 1917 (O silêncio das sereias), que vem revelar os diferentes sentidos por intermédio de uma linguagem descentrada, única, capaz de dar a perceber aquilo que escapa à legislação das palavras.
