MAKNA SOSIAL RITUAL BESENTULAK DALAM MASYARAKAT BATU KUTA KECAMATAN NARMADA KABUPATEN LOMBOK BARAT

Abstract

This study aims to determine the social meaning contained in the besentulak (reject reinforcements) ritual in the Batu Kuta community, Narmada District, West Lombok Regency. This research uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods. The types of data used are primary and secondary. Data sourced from research subjects and informants using ethnographic techniques. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. To test the validity of data was done through trianpulation. Data were analyzed by domain analysis, structural analysis, taxonomic analysis, component analysis, theme analysis. The results of the study found that there were several series of besentulak rituals, namely 1) gathering at the gathering point in front of the Abu Cilam mosque, 2) going around the alleys of Batu Kuta village, 3) core rituals. The meaning contained in the besentulak (reject reinforcements) ritual is divided into four, namely 1) the meaning of symbols seen from the activities and food served, namely bubur beak putek (red and white), jaje jongkong, serabi, apem (traditional food), and rice, 2) religious meaning seen from the implementation of the besentulak (reject reinforcements) ritual acculturated with Islam, 3) the meaning of kinship seen from community interaction when jointly carrying out the besentulak ritual,  4) The meaning of togetherness is seen from the community that together observe the dish after performing the ritual
