arquitectos que empezaron plasmando arquitectura especulativa, empezarı́an a construir y darı́an
The scene of the postwar era deϐined the way of proposing architecture of various characters
involved in this situation. Young architects were confronted to a World that had to change and
their only tool to make this possible was the drawing. Being able to express what the new
generation of architects felt, was fundamental for the technological, social and cultural
development of architecture. The architects that begun to create speculative architecture, would
shortly start to build and develop a need to evolve the technology in order to materialize the
projects that they had in mind. Although, not every architect of these avant-garde group was
interested in building: this was the case of Lebbeus Woods, who was interested in proposing a
change in the way of conceiving architecture, he would draw speculative and experimental
projects that would transcend the boundaries of architecture.
The present investigation shows the relationship between the philosophy of Lebbeus Woods, his
architectural project and how it relates to speculative and theoretical architects, who would later
build the architecture that previously could only be seen on paper. The wealth of ideas left by
Lebbeus Woods and other speculative thinkers and architects should not be analyzed only from a
constructive point of view. The true richness is probably found in the approaches to ways to create
or ϐind solutions. In this way, the theories, philosophy and ideas of Lebbeus Woods and the other
speculative architects will also be analyzed from another perspective.
Architects such as Zaha Hadid, Diller Scoϐidio + Renfro, Archigram, Daniel Libeskind and other
exponents are investigated and related to Lebbeus Woods in a work that encompasses the
theoretical, pictorial and built work pf these architects and thinkers. Applying the theory of
Lebbeus Woods through these and other references, analyzing the possibility of the
materialization of an architecture that, in the 20th century, would be considered not only
technically improbable, but also challenging of the proposals of the modern movement, academia
and the established rules
