A obra de Gordon Matta-Clark (1943-1978), artista norte-americano, apresenta uma sintaxe fortemente marcada pelo corte. O corte, um dos procedimentos da collage, se transforma também em conceito operatório neste ensaio para demonstrar que, através dele, a construção passa também pela destruição. Para isso, a reflexão aqui tem como interesse as fotocollages ampliadas em Cibachromes, técnica utilizada pelo artista que marcam o gesto do corte num processo contínuo de reconstrução: o corte que antecede a ação sobre edificações abandonadas prestes a serem demolidas até o corte do corte na collage.
