This report reflects the work carried out within the scope of the Curricular Unit of Supervised
Teaching Practice, which integrates the Master Course in 1st Cycle Basic Education and PreSchool Education Teaching. Superior Education School, of its Polytechnic Institute. We
started the Supervised Teaching Practice in a Nursery context, with a group of nineteen
children, aged 2 and 3 years old. We proceeded to the context of Pre-School Education, with
a group of 24 children aged 3, 4, 5 and 6 years old. We ended our journey in the 1st Cycle
of Basic Education, with a group of children in the 1st year of schooling, consisting of 23
children aged 6 and 7 years old. In each context, we developed different Teaching and
Learning Experiences considering the curricular articulation, the children's interests and
their learning pace. In order to guide the educational action, we relied on the official and
guiding documents of the Supervised Teaching Practice, more specifically, Educational
Principles in Day Care, Curriculum Guidelines for Pre-School Education and Curriculum
Programs and 1st Cycle of Basic Education Curricular Goals. The Teaching-Learning
Experiences that we describe and on which we reflect intend to answer to theme under study:
The potential of the external environment as a pedagogical resource. In an attempt to respond
to this issue, we outlined the following goals: i) Observe the outdoor spaces and identify
their pedagogical potential; ii) Valuing the outer space as a pedagogical resource, developing
significant activities in that space; iii) Knowing the children's opinion about the activities
carried out in the outdoor spaces and what relationship they establish between this and the
teaching-learning process. In order to collect the information for our investigation, it was
necessary to select a set of instruments of data collection. Moreover, we resorted to field
notes, photographic records, questionnaire-interview surveys and data and content analysis.
The presentation of teaching/learning experiences translates into a descriptive, interpretive
and reflective process, framed in a qualitative approach. It is important to point out that
throughout the Supervised Teaching Practice we adopted a reflective and critical attitude
towards the work carried out. After analyzing the data, we could see that, in general, those
involved in the educational process have a perception of how important outdoor space is in
the general development of children. The interaction with nature and its resources promotes
greater motivation for learning, so this is a remarkable space for the teaching/learning
process
