Tytuł wieńczy dzieło, czyli między wiernością a poprawnością w przekładzie tytułów literackich (na przykładzie tłumaczeń tytułów podań ze zbioru Sagen der Grafschaft Glatz Richarda Kühnaua z języka niemieckiego na język polski)

Abstract

A legend as a literary genre might be extremely challenging for a translator because it is strongly embedded in a cultural context. For this reason it is imperative that the translator retains in the translation not only the specific style characteristic of that text genre, but also that they place the legend in a cultural context. An element that heralds the legend and introduces the reader into the legend’s atmosphere is the title, whose translation might be difficult. The subject of the analysis conducted herein are German-Polish translations of titles of legends „Sagen der Grafschaft Glatz” by R. Kuhnau. The translations were performed by students of the Department of German Studies of the University of Wrocław between 2010 and 2011. The objective hereof is an analysis of translations, assessment of mistakes and translation difficulties, as well as an attempt to make a typology of their causes.Podanie jako gatunek literacki może stanowić olbrzymie wyzwanie dla tłumacza, ponieważ jako takie wpisuje się ono mocno w kontekst kulturowy obszaru, którego dotyczy. Z tego powodu konieczne jest zachowanie w przekładzie nie tylko specyficznego stylu, charakterystycznego dla tego typu literatury, ale również umiejscowienie podania w tym kontekście. Elementem wprowadzającym w treść podania i w jego klimat jest tytuł, którego przekład często sprawia tłumaczowi trudność. Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy są niemiecko-polskie tłumaczenia tytułów podań ze zbioru Sagen der Grafschaft Glatz R. Kühnaua. Tłumaczenia zostały wykonane przez studentów Instytutu Filologii Germańskiej Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego w latach 2010–2011. Celem jest analiza tłumaczeń, diagnoza błędów i trudności tłumaczeniowych oraz próba odpowiedzi na pytanie o przyczyny ich powstawania
