2019–2020 m. atlikti žvalgomieji tyrimai bei žvalgymai Gegrėnų archeologiniame komplekse, kurį sudaro du piliakalniai, du kapinynai, pilkapynas bei senovės gyvenvietė (Plungės r., Žemaičių Kalvarijos sen.). Naujai įrengiamos infrastruktūros vietose ištirta 19 šurfų, iš viso 20 m2 plotas, įrengiamų takų, laužavietės bei atvežtiniu gruntu užpilamų iškasinėjimų vietose žvalgytas apie 1500 m2 plotas. Gegrėnų archeologinis kompleksas tyrinėtas 2012–2013 m. pritaikant jį lankymui. A. Žilinskaitė 2012 m. Gegrėnų piliakalniuose, kapinyne ir jų aplinkoje ištyrė 20 šurfų. Kultūrinis sluoksnis neaptiktas, tačiau piliakalnio R papėdėje tirtame šurfe rasti 3 lipdytos keramikos fragmentai (KPC DF, f. 39, ap. 1, b. 3284). 2013 m. Gegrėnų piliakalniuose ir jų aplinkoje tyrimus atliko V. Juškaitis. Ištirtos 2 perkasos ir 10 šurfų, pėsčiųjų takų vietose žvalgytas apie 1230 m2 dydžio plotas. Archeologinis sluoksnis neaptiktas, tačiau piliakalnio II Š dalyje aptiktas griautinis kapas be įkapių, datuotas XVII– XIX a. Archeologinių žvalgymų metu Gegrėnų piliakalnio PR papėdėje rastas III–VIII a. ietigalis, IX–XII a. būdingos keturlapio dobilo formos segės fragmentas, buitinės keramikos šukė, dviejų geležinių peilių fragmentai ir neaiškios paskirties radinys (ATL 2013 metais, 2014, p. 170). [...]In 2019–2020, 19 test pits were excavated and roughly 1500 m2 were surveyed at the Gegrėnai archaeological complex (Plungė district, W Lithuania). No finds or structures were discovered in the majority of the test pits, sterile soil being reached at a depth of 0.3–1.3 m, and in places at the surveyed locations from a depth of 10–20 cm. At each of the two hillforts two 16th–17th-century copper alloy rings from destroyed burials were discovered. A cultural layer, up to 50 cm thick and containing several sherds of 1st millennium – first half of the 2nd millennium pottery and fragments of clay daub, was discovered at the SE foot of the first hillfort. The cultural layer and a sherd of partly thrown pottery discovered in the W edge of the cemetery’s grounds allow one to conjecture that a settlement horizon from the first half of the 2nd millennium could have survived at this location. Archaeological finds from the ancient settlement have been found only on the W part. In all, 19 finds were collected during the investigation
