The techno-morphological building characteristics as well as the building materials influence the building’s microclimate and contribute to determine its energy performance. Safeguarding the environment is a paradigm to be pursued without further delay otherwise the very survival of the planet could be at risk. The research on energy efficiency and environmental quality has introduced innovative technological tools such as: building performance simulation, building information modelling and parametric design. The road to follow in this field of research is still long but the path traced promises interesting results.
