Based on a pilot study completed near Heceta
Beach, Oregon, guidelines have been proposed for
the development of Oregon coastal sand areas.
The guidelines, in the form of performance standards
are designed with respect to the variability of
coastal sand areas. Landscape units and vegetation
associations were grouped to reflect similar areas
of environmental sensitivity. Performance standards
are then proposed for the resulting sensitivity
classes. In this way, flexibility has been
incorporated into the report to allow for any
differences between the study site and other
coastal sand areas. The performance standards
are also designed to provide planning officials
with the capability of modifying the criteria
to fit their specific location
