TEACHING OF ENGLISH TO PRESCHOOL CHILDREN AT AL-WALIDA \ud PLAYGROUP BUNGAH MANYAR GRESIK

Abstract

English is an international language and the first foreign language in Indonesia. It is considered \ud important to absorb and develop science, technology, art, and culture. In Indonesia, English has \ud been taught since pupils come into the secondary school up to university for the first time. But, \ud nowadays it can be taught since pupils in age of preschool or come into the playgroup. Although \ud in this, English educates by them just as a stimulus. \ud The objectives of this research are to investigate: 1) what the teaching techniques are used to \ud teach English at AL-WALIDA PLAYGROUP and 2) How the teachers use those techniques in \ud the teaching English at AL-WALIDA PLAYGROUP. \ud This study used descriptive qualitative research design that described the current status \ud phenomenon of the teaching of English to preschool children at AL-WALIDA PLAYGROUP. \ud The subjects of this research were the English teachers of AL-WALIDA PLAYGROUP Bungah \ud Manyar Gresik.The data of this research were collected and analyzed based on the interview and \ud observation. \ud The result of the study indicated that: 1) the teaching techniques used to teach English at AL-\ud WALIDA PLAYGROUP were dialogues, English songs, demonstration, and games techniques. \ud The most dominant techniques used in teaching English were English songs. 2) the teachers use \ud those techniques based on the Acuan Menu Pembelajaran Bagi Kelompok Bermain and also \ud manipulated by their self in accordance with situation and student’s condition in the class. The \ud teachers use English songs techniques almost in every session. While, others techniques like \ud dialogues were used to open the class, Demonstration techniques was used to enter the subject \ud matter, and games techniques used to evaluate the students
