A CASE STUDY ON THE COMMUNICATIVE TECHNIQUE FOR VERBAL ADVANCE AUTISM STUDENTS IN LABORATORIUM SEKOLAH AUTISME OF STATE UNIVERSITY IN MALANG

Abstract

Autism is not a disease but a developmental disorder of brain function which show three typical classic symptoms; problems with verbal and non verbal communication, impaired social interaction, unusual or severelly limited activities and interests. Meanwhile, the function of therapy for autism is very useful to stimulate sensory integration in order to eliminate several communication impairments especilally for the students in verbal catergory. It is because verbal students have a great chance to join regular school as soon as possible. Hence, the researcher formulated two problems in order to find out the effective and ineffective communication therapies for verbal advance students and to explain the factors which supported the responded and unresponded communication therapies. By using descriptive qualitative research design, the communicative techniques in Laboratorium Sekolah Autis of State University in Malang were the research object. Moreover, by the helped of two teachers as informants and three kinds of instruments; observation, interview, and document analysis, all datas were described into tables. Therefore, the communicative techniques are by face to face (between teachers and students), using more repetition and high voice from teachers, using their comprehended language and giving rewards for their success
