Abstract
The world has entered a new era of increasingly sophisticated technology and communication and continues to create various types of gadgets which have many advantages and are classified as high-tech gadgets. The development of smartphone technology supported by the internet network is able to provide the experience of unlimited access and transfer of data and information so that its use has the potential to affect human life. Currently, the pattern of human life from adults to children, both in terms of mindset and behavior, is greatly influenced by technological developments. Therefore this study aims to explore information on the use of gadgets on patterns of social interaction in students. The use of gadgets by children, especially students, can provide several benefits, including as a communication tools, social media, and educational media that are easy, practical, and efficient. But on the other hand the use of gadgets that are not addressed wisely and responsibly creates negative impacts that must be watched out for. Excessive use of gadgets has a negative impact, especially reducing concentration, physical fatigue, and feeling lazy to do social activities. The nature of addiction caused by the use of gadgets also triggers other social interaction problems such as (1) imitation, (2) suggestion, (3) identification, and (4) sympathy for certain things that exist in broadcasts or content on gadgets
