Classof 2024 participated in the first annual mockinterview day for their Professional Practice IIcourse, meeting with professionals from the field ofphysical therapy for 30-minute, one-on-one mockinterviews. The students came prepared with theirresumes and were provided feedback by theinterviewers. Read more about ChandraPauline Daniel. SHSP HIGHLIGHTS Anushka Parakh, SLP Class of 2024,Presents Lecture to TCDM StudentsOn July 21, 2023, Anushka Parakh, SLP Class of2024, in collaboration with Vikas Grover, Ph.D.,CCC-SLP, chief of the division of SLP, and MonicaMcHenry, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, professor of SLP,presented a lecture to TCDM students on the"Importance of Communications Sciences in theDental World." Parakh, a dentist by trade, and Drs.Grover and Mchenry are working with TCDMProfessors Carla Ann Tornatore, D.D.S., andHoward Fine, D.M.D., on the ongoing projectdesigned to integrate the worlds of speech-languagepathology and dentistry. D.P.T. Students Offer Fitness andWellness Consultations forChildren, Adults and SeniorsThird-year students in the D.P.T. programperformed fitness and wellness consultations foradults, children and seniors as part of theirPhysical therapy in Preventative Health Care andWellness course. Three days of consultationshelped the students integrate their physicaltherapy examination, evaluation and interventionknowledge and skills into screening for preventionand holistic wellness. Following their sessionswith the volunteers, they were mentored onconsultative writing and provided an individualized wellness report to the guests to informand educate them on their findings, offer support and validation of what they are currentlydoing, or referred them to an appropriate health care practitioner for follow-up to optimizetheir health status and prevent future problems.Adult fitness evaluations were led by Kristina Welsome, D.P.T., M.S., PT, MTS, OCS,CFMT, assistant professor of physical therapy. Pediatric fitness evaluations were led byYelina Bregman D.P.T., PT, PCS, clinical instructor of physical therapy, and senior fitnessevaluations were led by Nikki Gawronski, D.P.T., PT, GCS, CEEAA, assistant professorof physical therapy.  SLP Hosts Cricket Activity for First-Year StudentsFirst-year students from the Division of SLPparticipated in a friendly game of cricket out front ofthe alumni house alongside SLP faculty members aspart of orientation. Led by Vikas Grover, Ph.D.,CCC-SLP, chief of the division of SLP, the eventprovided an opportunity for bonding and offeredinsight into the foundational skills that these futureSLPs can expect to use in the field. Watch the videorecap. 25th Annual Race for Rehab Slatedfor October 15, 2023The Race for Rehab 5K, scheduled for October 15, isan annual race held on the NYMC campus eachOctober. The festive event—which also featuresstudent-led warm-ups and a post-race awardsceremony—debuted in 1999 and is hosted by theDivision of Physical Therapy.Proceeds from the race benefit Achilles International, anot-for-profit organization that provides a community ofsupport to athletes with disabilities, using sports as a tool to offer hope, inspiration and thejoy of achievement.Learn more and register for this year's race. Robert W. '07, Named toCity and State New York's 2023Westchester Power 100 ListOn August 21, City & State New York announced its2023 Westchester Power 100 list, recognizing themost influential leaders in the county. Earning a spoton the list this year is Robert W. Amler, M.D.,M.B.A., dean of SHSP, and Judith Watson, M.P.H.'07. Dr. Amler was honored for his role in securing a$1.9 million grant for programming at the ClinicalSkills and Simulation Center and the Center for Disaster Medicine. Watson was praised forher contributions to the county as the CEO of Westchester Community Health Center,which recently received a $12 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health andHuman Services for renovations to its Mount Vernon location. SHSP Café is OpenSHSP Building, Main Lobby8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. On weekends and after 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, thecafè is accessible by card reader only.
