The mostcommon field control andmitigation strategies to containof grapevine trunk diseases arepreventive measures, such asthe application of plantprotection products on pruningwounds.AIMThe goal of the present study was to understandwhether and how fungicides may affect theaccumulation of stilbenes in fruiting-cane pruningwounds, to evaluate the grapevine ability to activatenatural defense mechanisms, in response totreatments.MATERIALS AND METHODSINTRODUCTIONIn winter 2022 (at the DISAFAvineyard), we pruned one-year-oldshoots of Cabernet Sauvignon andSyrah and we treated pruningwounds with:• Cuprocol (copper oxychloride);• Tessior (0,95 % (w/w) boscalide, 0,48 %(w/w) pyroscstrobin);• Esquive (Trichoderma atroviride);• Bentogran (sodium bentonite);• deionized water (control).Evaluation of the stilbenecompounds using HPLC/DAD:• concentration (g kg-1 dry weight);• profile (based on UV-spectrumand standard injection).We sampled at three differentphenological phases:• dormant bud;• second leaf stretched;• sixth leaf stretched and visibleinflorescences.However, plant protection products can influenceplant secondary metabolism, and this interferencemay be decisive in countering pathogen attacks.0.000.200.400.600.801.001.201.401.601.802.002.202.402.602.803.003.20Sampling time one Sampling time two Sampling time threeg/kgSyrahControl Cuprocol Esquive Tessior Bentogran0.000.200.400.600.801.001.201.401.601.802.002.202.402.602.803.003.20Sampling time one Sampling time two Sampling time threeg/kgCabernet SauvignonControl Cuprocol Esquive Tessior BentogranThe total stilbene accumulation wasslightly higher in Syrah, withconcentrations ranging from 0.8 g to 2.8g/kg, compared to Cabernet Sauvignon,(from 0.5 to 2.0 g/kg). Significantdifferences between the cultivars (P≤0.01) emerged.In Syrah, total accumulation increasedafter Cuprocol treatment, reaching 2.8g/kg, respect to controls and to the othertreatments. In Cabernet Sauvignon,Esquive samples exhibited slightly higherconcentrations than controls, whereasCuprocol, Tessior, and Bentogran resultedin similar accumulation, compared tocontrol samples. Differences were foundamong treatments (P≤ 0.0001).The most evident trait was the behavior ofstilbene accumulation during thevegetative season: regardless the cultivarand the treatment, we found adecreasing trend in total stilbeneaccumulation, with significant differences(P≤0.0001). Differences were also foundin the bipartite interactiontreatment*sampling time (P≤0.0001) andin the tripartite interactiontreatment*sampling time*cultivars (P≤0.01).At the stage of dormant bud, in both Syrah andCabernet Sauvignon, regardless the treatments,the prevalent compound was trans-resveratrol(60%), followed by ɛ-viniferins (22%), piceatannol(17%) and polydatin (1%). However, treatments did not affect the profile.The seasonal evolution of the profile might be a specific and characteristic trait of wood metabolism, or aconsequence tied to the increase in xylem flow, responsible for the translocation of these compounds.Part of the results reported in this poster are part of the project NODES which has received funding from the MUR – M4C2 1.5 of PNRR with grant agreement no.
