Although migration and immigration (face and seal of the same coin) are phenomena as old as humanity itself, the volume, speed, systematicity, and diversity of factors that have encouraged them during the last decades, have constituted them in one of the most characteristic and distinctive social phenomena of our time. Under this consideration, based on official and academic information, and addressing the matter from a broad historical and structural perspective that allows us to elucidate how this social phenomenon has been generating and expressing itself, in this article as a result of the macro project “Imaginaries, representations, stories and narratives about the city, border, and migration ”we describe the dynamics that these phenomena have had in recent years in the global, regional and local context. We analyze how social workers can act in the face of the challenges that this situation has been generating in the particular socio-spatial scenario, especially concerning the defense of the Human Rights of migrants.Aunque la migración y la inmigración (cara y sello de la misma moneda) son fenómenos tan antiguos como la misma humanidad, el volumen, la rapidez, la sistematicidad y la diversidad de factores que las han alentado durante las últimas décadas, las han constituido en uno de los fenómenos sociales más característicos y distintivos de nuestro tiempo. Bajo esta consideración, con base en información oficial y académica, y abordando el asunto desde una amplia perspectiva histórica y estructural que nos permita dilucidar cómo es que ese fenómeno social ha ido generando y expresándose, en el presente artículo producto del macro proyecto “ Imaginarios, representaciones, relatos y narrativas sobre ciudad, frontera y migración” describimos las dinámicas que esos fenómenos han tenido durante los últimos años en el contexto global, regional y local y analizamos cómo las y los trabajadores sociales pueden actuar frente a los desafíos que dicha situación ha ido generando en el particular escenario socioespacial, y especialmente en lo que concierne a la defensa de los Derechos Humanos de los migrantes
