Study of the. time-relaxation of the plasma parameters ne.•and Те, during and after ·a.current pulse can provide useful insfght in•the excitation-ionization equilibrium and in the transport propert1es of the plasma. We used an atmospheric cas~~ded arc in argon (ф = ~ mm) operating at 80 amperes. Accurate values for Те, ne state Ьу the source function method (2 lasers : О. 63 µm and 3. 39 µm) 2 . and n were determined in the stationary J а and Ьу Ashby-Jephcott interferometry Ву the application of а current pulse (150 Amps; ?00 µs; 10% d;oop; 3 µs rise and fall times), the plasma is forced temporary in а different stationary state. US:ing. the same diagnostics we evaluated the, time-evolution of Те at:id ne; see figure 1. We observe а substantial increase in Че (factor 2.5) and а 15% increase in Те; also the corresponding enhancement o.f continuum and Ar II line radiation has been observed. Conclusions : ~.
