The typological and raw material diversity of artefacts discovered at the Post-medieval burials gives enormous interpretative possibilities in the field of funeral rites. The archaeological research conducted by the Documentation and Conservation Laboratory of the Institute of Archaeology at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in 2009–2016 in the church and in the surrounding area in Gniew, as well as in the crypts of the church in Szczuczyn allowed for the development of a scheme of operation on this type of archaeological site, and three main groups of registered artefacts (coffins, clothes, devotional items) provideda lot of information on funeral rites and allowed for the identification of the deceased.Różnorodność typologiczna i surowcowa odkrywanych przy nowożytnych pochówkach przedmiotów daje olbrzymie możliwości interpretacyjne w zakresie obrzędowości pogrzebowej. Prowadzone przez Pracownię Dokumentacji i Konserwacji Instytutu Archeologii Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika w latach 2009–2016 badania archeologiczne w kościele i na terenie przykościelnym w Gniewie oraz w kryptach kościoła w Szczuczynie, pozwoliły na wypracowanie schematu działania na tego typu stanowiskach archeologicznych, a rejestrowane trzy główne grupy przedmiotów zabytkowych (trumny, ubiory, dewocjonalia) dostarczyły wielu informacji na temat obrzędowości pogrzebowej i pozwoliły na identyfikację zmarłych
