Abstract:Diego de Saavedra Fajardo (1584–1648) was Spanish diplomat and political writer, author of many works, for example: La república literaria, Corona gótica, castellana y austríaca (1648), Introducción a la política y razón de Estado del rey católico don Fernando (1631) and Idea de un príncipe político cristiano (1640, eng. „Idea of a Christian Political Prince”). These last work is an important expression of the neo-stoicism and neo-thomism which flourished in 17th-century Spain. The author also refers to the concept of a good reason of state and creates an anti-Machiavellian vision of politics. Saavedra’s work is also worth attention due to its form. It is one of the most important examples of emblem book
